Upskilling to Upgrade Services

The Challenge

Our client was an award winning medium sized IT systems and support business employing 20 staff.  Ongoing expansion and the constant need to train their workforce in the emergence of new technologies was a drain on the business's resources.  Company leaders and managers were also from technical backgrounds and were lacking in leadership and management skills.  Technical staff, while experts in their field, needed customer service development to ensure client management excellence was maintained.

Our Solution

Understanding the need to provide a workforce development solution in a cost effective model, Phalanx recommended the utilisation of a Government funding program called My Business, My People (now superseded by Skills for Growth: the workforce development program). The My Business, My People initiative was designed to assist small and medium businesses in attracting skilled staff and upskilling existing staff.

Through the assistance of Phalanx and the program access to various forms of support were available, including:

  • Free onsite assistance with developing and implementing workforce plans;
  • Subsidised management development programs; and
  • Access to an online toolkit of workforce planning and management resources.

The client eligibilty for additional federal funding for training undertaken was also explored and supplied.
